Motorhome Day 11 - On the Road Again

Today (Sunday) was the longest day on the road - we covered around 900km, and drove right across the State of Kansas.

Green and fertile farming land in Kansas
The scenery changes very little across the great American Bread Bowl - mile after mile after mile of farmland - lush and green from the recent rain and the melting snow.  We can't help thinking that the inland of Australia could be just as productive if we could get some water where it is needed.  It would only take the will to get it done (but maybe that is getting too political).  I will get back to the geography.

Miles of lush countyside

The whole area looks incredibly flat, but in reality the entire journey is a steady climb towards the mountains.  The roads are wide and straight, and speed limits are up to 75MPH, but of course we didn't go that fast.  Plenty of traffic and trucks, even on a Sunday.  We changed drivers every couple of hours, so the drive was no great problem, though were were pleased to stop. It was a much needed incident free day.

We pulled up for the evening at a place called Stratton, Colorado, just over 2 hours out of Denver.  We are at 4500ft above sea level, and tomorrow (Denver) we will be at 5280 feet - exactly one mile high - no wise cracks about any associated clubs, OK.

The RV pulls up for her last night with us

After a long day in the saddle, studying maps for tomorrow

We are intending to ditch this RV for an newer model, and then head south towards Santa Fe, before heading further west to the Grand Canyon National Park.  We have given ourselves plenty of time to see the Canyon, and if we can get a helicopter flight we intend to do that too.

Looking forward to the mountains and the desert.

Here are a few pics of some of the rigs we have been sharing our campgrounds with:
