Motorhome Days 3 & 4 - Lebanon, Maine

The three hour trip from Boston to Lebanon was unremarkable compared with previous days driving - there was no getting lost, no major incidents, and the State Troopers didn't want anything to do with us - they must be reading our blog and are now aware of our importance.

We were hosted at Lebanon, Maine, by friends that Brian and Maureen had met on their trip to Europe last year.  We were greeted warmly and given the run of the place - a beautiful home set on 17 acres in the town of Lebanon - a town of six thousand people in a lovely semi-rural setting.

Beautiful setting in the woods - the back yard

Rick and Ellen's home is delightful.  It was rebuilt about six years ago after being burnt down in a lightning strike. Every detail of the home is lovely, and the woodland setting was beautifully tranquil. There is an abundance of wildlife in the fields, including squirrels, woodchucks, groundhogs, hummingbirds the size of a 50 cent piece, other birds and deer (though we didn't see any deer).

To say that Rick and Ellen were great hosts would be an understatement.  Every possible need was catered for. We felt part of the family instantly, and there was oodles of yummy food.

We were taken on a grand tour of the area, and Helen was introduced to Ellen's hairdresser, who took quite a deal off Helen's flowing mane. It has rained for the past two days almost non-stop, and things are decidedly soggy, but our time here has been great.

We were sad to say goodbye after two nights, but we do have other places to see, and the road to Niagara Falls beckons - it is at least a ten hour trip, so an early night and an early start on motorhome day 5.

More from Niagara Falls.
