Motorhome Day 5 - Maureen's 60th - On the Road Again

Motorhome Day 5 was a travelling day - we did nothing but travel. Not an ideal way to celebrate Mauzie's 60th birthday, but she did receive some messages from the girls at home which she got a kick out of.

It doesn't look far on the map from Lebanon to Niagara Falls, but let me tell you that it is a long drive - we started out around 8:00am, and apart from a break every couple of hours to change drivers and have something to eat, we drove solidly, passing through the States of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and New York State.  We didn't get to Niagara until almost 8:00pm. Our trip took us through some beautiful mountain scenery and quaint villages, though the visibility in the mountains was poor due to rain and heavy fogs in some places.

We had phoned ahead and booked a KOA (Kampgrounds of America) site in North Niagara Falls.  When we arrived we decided that it wasn't up to our standards, so we left and headed back to KOA in Niagara. Luckily, about 500m from the campground we found a nice little restaurant (The Pepper Mill) where we had a Birthday Dinner for Maureen, before heading back and parking the rig for the night.  There, Maureen discovered that there was a bottle of "The Mauzie" Sauvignon Blanc waiting for her (complete with a 40yr old photo of her on the label), so a nightcap was called for.

Unfortunately, the roof of the RV had leaked in the rain - right on top of Helen and Rod's bed - so a bed was manufactured on the lounge - a 2 seater measuring approx 1.2 m long, and there they slept, curled in little balls for the night. I somehow think that a phone call to El Monte RV Hire might be in order this morning, and I wouldn't mind betting that the sparks will fly!!

It is FREEZING here.  Temperature is hovering around freezing point, and there is an icy wind with light drizzle. The air conditioner in the RV is getting a workout.

We now know why it is called Niagara Falls - it could be that we need to add a word such as:

Niagara Temperature Falls, or Niagara Rain Falls, or Niagara Hope Falls, or Niagara Morale Falls.

We are off to see the falls in the morning - maybe the dawning of the new day will brighten our spirits. The weather aside, we are still loving the trip.  Maureen managed to talk to Nat, Emma and Kate on Skype for her birthday, so all was not lost.

More tomorrow.
