That situation was fixed today !
Also fixed (we hope) was the leak in the roof - after a rather sharp conversation with El Monte RV Hire, we were attended to by an RV specialist centre in Niagara Falls. It took a couple of hours, and then we headed towards Amish Country in Ohio. Other conversations have also been held today with El Monte RV Rentals, and we will be speaking with their manager tomorrow about our dissatisfaction with the RV. Could be an interesting conversation!! We will let you know.
We travelled through New York State, Pennsylvania and into Ohio. We decided to bypass Chicago as reports from other RV'ers said that there was little point and that we would not be able to get the RV close, so we took their advice and headed further south.
That was where the State Trooper got Rod.
Now hands up all those who knew that if a police car is stopped on the side of the road that all traffic must vacate the lane closest to the police car and move into the other lane as a safety measure. Nobody knew? I didn't think so. Neither did we.
The State Trooper was a real piece of work - overweight, chewing tobacco (I kid you not) and with a slow drawl. "I pulled you over for a New York State Law Violation - you must move over if a Trooper is stopped on the shoulder." When it was explained to him that we didn't know, he replied "I know". It didn't stop him issuing an infringement notice which read "State of New York V Rod Pyne". "My liiiife is on the liiiine out theeeerrrre and it's only common sense", he drawled.
So now Rod & Brian are 1-1. Stay tuned - only 3000 miles to go. Score could change anytime.
We didn't let it ruin our day, and the drive to Amish country (Berlin, Ohio) was spectacular, despite a huge traffic jam on the outskirts of Cleveland where 10 lanes of traffic come back to three and then two. It took about 45 minutes to go a couple of kilometres, but once through that, the drive was painless.
Traffic jam outide Cleveland
There are a lot of Amish people about, with their old fashioned clothing and implements and they drive in horse and buggies (just like they do in the movies). It looks like an amazing place, and the Amish people were still working in their gardens as we arrived towards dusk.
